These digital images are immediately available for viewing on a computer monitor and can be saved to any number of portable media devices.
What To Expect Regarding Registration
All patients, even if they’re pre-registered, should still check-in with the registration area as there are usually additional documents that need to be read and signed. Allowing 15 to 30 minutes for the Registration process, even if you’re pre-registered, will help ensure that you’re on time for your appointment in the Imaging Department.
What to bring
You’ll need a written order from your physician for your procedure and you’ll need to bring a complete list of the medications you are presently taking.
How to prepare for the procedure:
To obtain accurate results, it’s important that you follow all the instructions provided by your physician and the person with whom you schedule the tests. Sometimes fasting, laxatives, enemas or pre-medication may be required. For certain procedures, contrast media, also known as X-ray dye, may be given by mouth or by injection.
Test Results
Your test results will be released to your physician first, often within 24 hours of your visit to LewisGale Hospital at Alleghany’s Imaging Department. Because interpreting and understanding your results requires highly specialized training and knowledge, your physician will review the results with you. We cannot release images to you before they have been released to and reviewed by your referring physician.
Release of Films
If you’d like a copy of your images once your physician has reviewed the results with you, simply make a request with the Diagnostic Imaging Department 24 hours before you’d like to pick them up and we’ll have a CD with your images ready and waiting for you.
Comparison Films
Having access to your diagnostic images from previous exams greatly assists our Radiologist in comparing your present exam to past results, and can lead to a much more thorough, insightful interpretation. If you have had images, such as a mammogram, taken at another facility and are now being treated at LewisGale Hospital at Alleghany, it is critically important that you provide our Imaging Department with those earlier images before the radiologist interprets your current results.
Waiting Time
We know how valuable your time is and we value it too. So when you have to wait beyond your scheduled appointment time, please know that the delay is, in all likelihood, the result of an emergency, and that the diagnostic procedures being performed have to be done so immediately because a critically ill or injured patient’s survival could be depending on it. We will always do our best to keep your procedure at the scheduled time and inform you if any delays arise.
